Goal/Objective
To provide durable, ergonomic, and child-friendly classroom furniture to enhance the learning experience and create a comfortable educational environment at Samoon Adarsh Vidhyalaya, Osla.
Background/Need Assessment
Samoon Adarsh Vidhyalaya, Osla, situated in the remote and underserved Har Ki Dun Valley of Uttarkashi district, currently provides free primary education to over 100 students from marginalized mountain communities. Despite the efforts of teachers and the local community, the lack of basic classroom infrastructure, especially furniture, hampers effective learning. Children from Grades 1 to 5 are attending classes sitting on cold stone floors, affecting posture, hygiene, and concentration. This proposal seeks to equip all five classrooms with appropriate, age-specific furniture—individual chairs and tables for senior students, child-friendly stools and round tables for younger ones, and essential furniture for teachers—creating a dignified, comfortable, and inclusive learning space.
Proposed Activities
Procurement of furniture based on student age and grade. Transportation from Dehradun to the base road head. Manual labour to carry furniture 6 km uphill to the school site. Assembly and classroom arrangement.
