Cleanliness Awareness Rally and Ganga Cleaning Campaign Organized by Samoon Foundation under the C20 Samajshala Banner of G20
Under the C20 Samajshala initiative of the G20, Samoon Foundation organized a Cleanliness Awareness Rally and Ganga Cleaning Campaign on Sunday, 18 June 2023, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Rishikesh. The rally commenced from Koyal Valley, passed through AIIMS Road, and continued along Barrage Road. Following the rally, a cleanliness drive was conducted along the riverbanks (ghats) at Marine Drive (Aastha Path).
The campaign witnessed active participation from members of the Samoon Foundation, including Jitendra Jardhari, Kamal Joshi, Vikram Shah, Sita Payal, Surendra Singh Negi, Shanti Prasad Joshi, Rajeshwari Devi, and others. The event was also joined by the team of the Rishikesh Municipal Corporation, students from UPES University, local residents, and social workers.
The Ganga is not merely a river but a glorious symbol of Indian culture and heritage. Revered by 108 names such as Devnadi, Jahnavi, Vishnupada, and Shivshishdharini, Mother Ganga holds a sacred place in the hearts of millions. However, the present situation is alarming. The water of the Ganga, once considered as pure as nectar, is no longer fit for drinking. Industrial waste, sewage from drains, urban garbage, and polluted water are continuously being discharged into the river, causing increasing levels of pollution every day.
It is the responsibility of all citizens to work together to keep our homes, villages, streets, neighborhoods, cities, and workplaces clean. By maintaining a clean and healthy environment and preserving the purity of Mother Ganga, we can present our nation as an ideal example before the world.
If public awareness regarding the Ganga Cleaning Campaign is promoted alongside the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the sacred and life-giving waters of the Ganga can certainly be protected from pollution. This is precisely why we named our campaign “The Sacred Ganga of a Clean India.”
As Mother Ganga flows down from the mountains with her melodious and lively currents, her character gradually changes when she enters urban areas. Rishikesh is the first major city where the Ganga meets urban civilization. Therefore, we chose Rishikesh as the location for this Cleanliness Awareness Rally and Ganga Cleaning Campaign.
The primary objective of this campaign was to create awareness among people about cleanliness and the importance of keeping the Ganga clean. Through this initiative, citizens were encouraged not to throw waste into the river and to actively participate in making their city cleaner, greener, and more beautiful.
