  • Objectives:
      1. Plant a minimum of 1,000 saplings annually in selected villages.
      1. Engage village households by allocating saplings to be planted on their land.
      1. Promote long-term care, watering, and protection of saplings by involving local families.
      1. Achieve an annual survival rate of 70–80% through monitoring and follow-up visits.
    1. Increase awareness on environmental conservation among rural communities, youth, and school students.
  • Goal/Objective:

The goal of the Samoon Green Uttarakhand Initiative (SGUI) is to strengthen Uttarakhand’s natural ecosystem through extensive tree plantation, awareness programs, and people’s participation.
    The project aims to:

      1. Increase the green cover by planting and nurturing 10,000 native trees in selected districts.
      1. Inspire citizens to take personal responsibility for protecting their environment.
      1. Educate communities and schools on sustainable living, climate action, and waste management.
    1. Encourage long-term environmental stewardship among youth and local residents.
  • Background/Need Assessment:

Uttarakhand’s forests are not just a source of beauty they are the foundation of life for its people. However, in recent years, uncontrolled deforestation, frequent forest fires, landslides, and developmental pressures have reduced the green cover and affected biodiversity.

Many rural communities depend directly on forest resources for their daily needs. As trees disappear, water sources dry up, soil erosion increases, and local climate conditions worsen.

Samoon Foundation has been actively addressing this through its “Our Bond with Trees” and Harela campaigns. Building upon this experience, the Samoon Green Uttarakhand Initiative focuses on long-term environmental restoration through community-led plantation drives, awareness activities, and sustainable care practices.

  • Implementation Strategy:

    a) Pre-Planning

    • Survey of villages and identification of suitable plantation sites

    • Selection of sapling types based on climate and soil (fruit-bearing, medicinal, shade-giving, native species)

    • Supply coordination with government nurseries/private plant suppliers

    b) Plantation Day Activities

    • Community mobilisation & awareness sessions

    • Distribution of saplings to villagers

    • Plantation with participation from youth, women groups & students

    • Geo-tagging (if required by CSR partner)

    c) Post-Plantation Support

    • Monthly monitoring visits

    • Training villagers for watering, manure preparation & sapling care

    • Replacement of damaged plants

    • Survival rate tracking and reporting

  • Expected Outcomes:
      1. 1,000 new saplings planted every year
      1. Improved green cover in the village
      1. Community engagement in environmental protection
      1. Soil and water conservation benefits
      1. Long-term livelihood benefits through fruit trees
    1. Higher awareness among youth and farmers
  • Monitoring & Evaluation:
      1. Plantation logs and attendance sheets

      2. Quarterly survival assessment reports

      3. Before-after photographs

      4. CSR partner reporting (monthly/quarterly/annual)

      5. Transparent utilisation reporting and social media visibility (if required)

  • Partners/Funding Needed: Samoon Foundation proposes an annual, community-driven Tree Plantation & Environmental Restoration Initiative aimed at increasing green cover, improving soil health, and supporting sustainable rural ecosystems in Uttarakhand. Each year, the Foundation pl
  • Partners/Funding Needed:

We don’t have our own land for plantation, so we work with schools, gram panchayats, and local communities.
We need support for saplings, fencing, watering, and awareness material.

Any CSR partner or donor who wishes to support green work in Uttarakhand is welcome to join hands with Samoon Foundation.

  • Sustainability:

The sustainability of the project is ensured through:

        1. Planting on villagers’ own land (ownership & care)
        1. Training on watering & protection
        1. Regular follow-up by Samoon Foundation team
        1. Use of native, climate-resistant species
        1. Replacement of dead saplings

This ensures that the green cover continues to grow each year.

  • Expected Impact:

Significant increase in local green cover across project regions.

Strengthened ecological awareness among rural and urban populations.

Reduced soil erosion and improved water retention in hilly areas.

Creation of a community-driven environmental network that continues beyond project duration.

A replicable model for community-based environmental action in Uttarakhand.

  • Theory of Change:

Inputs: Saplings, volunteers, awareness tools, technical guidance, and resources.
Activities: Tree plantation, community engagement, awareness campaigns, and training.
Outputs: Trees planted, volunteers trained, events conducted, awareness created.
Outcomes: Increased green cover, improved biodiversity, stronger environmental responsibility.
Impact: Healthier ecosystems, empowered communities, and a greener Uttarakhand.

  • Monitoring & Evaluation:

Monthly field monitoring and photographic documentation of plantations.

Quarterly progress reviews and plant survival assessments.

Feedback collection from schools, volunteers, and community members.

Annual impact report highlighting success indicators like survival rate, awareness reach, and community participation.

All data will be verified and maintained by Samoon Foundation’s environmental monitoring team.

  • Sustainability Plan:

Samoon Foundation ensures sustainability by connecting communities emotionally and practically to each tree.

    Key strategies include:

    • Adopt a Tree Model: Each sapling is assigned to a student, family, or volunteer for care.

    • Community Partnerships: Collaboration with Forest Department and local self-help groups for ongoing maintenance.

    • Annual Replantation Drive: Replacement of lost saplings during monsoon.

    • Youth Engagement: Continuous training and recognition of Green Volunteers.

    • Local Ownership: Villagers take responsibility for tree protection and watering through incentive programs.

These measures ensure every tree planted becomes part of a living ecosystem supporting generations to come.

  • Budget Summary :

Will be shared after receiving RFP from donors
