GOALS:
1.
Save the environment by
eliminating the use of single-use plastic plates: Every
day, millions of disposable plastic plates, cups, spoons, forks, and knives are
used, only to end up in the trash after a single use. While we all use plastic
products due to their affordability, we often overlook the true cost of
recycling or disposing of plastic and the detrimental effects of plastic on our
natural resources, such as soil, lakes, rivers, mountains, seas, animals,
birds, and marine life, to name a few. SAMOON is driven by a passion for making
our planet a better place to live and improving the lives of future
generations. With this passion, we produce leaf cups and plates that are 100%
natural, eco-friendly, biodegradable, compostable, and chemical-free. These
products will be crafted from green leaves, without the need to cut down trees
for production.
2.
Prevent migration from
Uttarakhand by creating employment opportunities in rural areas: Migration is a significant issue faced by the people from the hilly
regions of Uttarakhand. While there was hope that the new state would
experience an economic boost and attract industries, leading to improved
employment and education opportunities in the hills, this has not materialized.
To address the problem of migration, we must first understand its root causes.
Agriculture is the primary source of livelihood in the hills, and although some
people may choose to stay and engage in agriculture, many are still migrating.
The reality is that they often do not have much of a choice. Agriculture
involves strenuous labor with limited financial gain and significant risks.
Consequently, the youth seek alternative employment with a stable income and
less risk, often leading to migration to the plains and cities for jobs.
Creating employment opportunities in rural villages through small-scale
industries will help us stem the tide of migration from Uttarakhand.
3.
Preserve Uttarakhandi
traditions and empower women with job skills: India is
renowned for its cultural heritage, traditions, civilization, religions, and
geographical features dating back to ancient times. Leaves have historically
served as the primary choice for plates when serving food, a practice that
dates back to the time when humans lived in forests. Many villagers and
families still use leaves to serve food during functions like weddings and
Chudakarm. In Uttarakhandi culture, various types of leaves are used to serve
food, but Maloo leaves are particularly preferred due to the belief that eating
from leaves is considered highly auspicious. In our plant, we will prioritize
job opportunities for women from economically disadvantaged families, thereby
preserving our Uttarakhandi traditions of using leaf plates called
"PATTAL."
BENEFITS OF EATING ON LEAF PLATES::
1.
The herb found in leaf plates
purifies the blood, relieves organ congestion, and helps in toning organs. It
is safe for both internal and external use in the body.
2.
Leaf plates help reduce
swelling, eliminate toxins from the body, and remove excess moisture. The
leaves act as a diuretic, which can address various kidney and bladder issues,
including bed-wetting disorders in both children and adults.
3.
Eating on leaf plates is
soothing for the digestive system because the mucilage in the leaves cools the
inflamed mucous membranes and can help heal ulcers.
4.
When food is consumed on leaf
plates, the diuretic properties of the herb are balanced by the presence of
food items, which can have a positive impact on kidney function.
5.
Plantain leaf plates also have
demulcent properties, making them effective in treating injuries and
inflammations.
6.
Leaf plates are not only
eco-friendly and compostable but are also suitable for serving both hot and
cold items.
